Project Aware Players & Falling

Prescription drug abuse has become a huge problem among young people. There is an urgent need to raise awareness about this disturbing trend. The Project AWARE Players recently created the short movie and DVD, “Falling” in the hopes that a realistic dramatic story featuring teens, along with informative documentaries, would help to begin the dialogue necessary to keep young people safe.

The goals of Project AWARE and “Falling” include: (1) increased awareness about a hot topic in schools: prescription drug abuse (2) a chance to witness empowered young people taking leadership roles to make a difference around this issue (3) stimulate a similar leadership activity with a school or community.

Falling is available to communities in a number of ways:

  1. Project AWARE will mail out the DVD along with a comprehensive facilitators guide at no cost. Voluntary contributions are gladly accepted. A DVD order form is available on the website or by contacting Project AWARE.
  2. Assembly or large community group presentations. See below for a description.
  3. Small group short class series with an identified group in a public or private school or other community group. See below for a description.

“Falling” Assembly or Large Group Presentation:
Attendees will view an interactive skit or other creative presentation by the Project AWARE Players, see the short dramatic main feature of the DVD which is written, directed and performed by these teens, and have an opportunity to interact with the troupe. It is a rare opportunity to witness and then connect directly with a powerful group of committed young leaders who are making a difference about an issue that concerns them. Project AWARE will facilitate an interactive learning session on how to implement similar activities in local schools and / or communities.

“Falling” Small Group Short Class Series
Project AWARE will work with a school or community group to develop a program to raise awareness about youth prescription drug abuse.

Project AWARE presents a draft curriculum to a school or community group. As a main feature, the curriculum includes the DVD “Falling” which is utilized as a stimulator in the first session (see below) for discussion and action around the issue of prescription drug abuse. Project AWARE facilitators then work closely with the school in finalizing the curriculum and implementing it as a part of ongoing substance abuse education through health classes or otherwise, as determined by that school or community group.

Project AWARE will be available to participate in 3 or more sessions with students in a format to be determined by the school or group. Also included is coordination, pre-meetings, curriculum development and travel.
